The Time for Change is Now!

In a recent article in the Basildon Echo, Angela Smith MP went on the defensive, declaring Gordon Brown to be the man to sort out the economic mess this country finds itself in.

Stephen Metcalfe, Prospective Conservative MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock, not surprisingly disagrees.

Stephen said: “Gordon Brown is yesterday’s man, whether as Prime Minister or as Chancellor, Gordon Brown has been determined to ignore simple economics. During his tenure he has raided our pensions, doubled the tax take, sold our gold off cheap, overseen huge rises in food, fuel and energy prices, declared an end to boom and bust, seen our debt grow out of control and spent more than we have earned.”

“He failed to prepare us for the bad times and has spent ever penny he ever got his hands on, so that now we are having to borrow hundreds of billions of pounds to prop up our ailing economy.”

“Each man, woman and child in Britain now has a personal debt, run up by the Government, of £22,000!”

Stephen continued: “As I talk to people on the door step many are very concerned about their future: rising job losses, rising debt and this Government’s complete failure to get a grip on the situation.”

If Gordon Brown is not worried about what people think, perhaps he should be!

“The 10p tax debacle last year was an indication of how out of touch he is, where those on modest incomes were not even given a thought when the policy was being decided.”

“It is time for change, and only David Cameron and the Conservative Party can deliver the change so desperately needed - to get our debt under control, stop the waste and inefficiency and focus on what really matters to people – decent public services, a stable economy and less Government interference.”

“The time for change is now, and I very much look forward to being part of that change where we will stop putting Government first and start putting the people of South Basildon & East Thurrock first.”
