Conservatives Commitment to Council Tax Freeze Stands Firm!

Stephen Metcalfe, Prospective Conservative MP for South Basildon & East Thurrock has confirmed the Conservative Party’s commitment to a two year freeze on Council Tax stands firm!

Despite the economic down turn, credit crunch and recession, the Conservatives are still committed to helping hard working families across south Essex survive Labour’s failure on jobs and the economy.

In a statement issued today Stephen Metcalfe said: “It is vital, now more than ever, that we deliver on our promise to freeze Council Tax. Under Labour, Council Tax has in the majority of cases more than doubled. Labour’s mismanagement of local government together with central government’s withdrawal of grant support to councils in the south, has seen families paying more and more of their income in Council Tax.”

“Therefore under a Conservative Government, any prudent council that can make savings and set a Council Tax increase of 2.5% or less, will have the increase refunded by a Conservative Government, effectively creating a 0% increase for local Council Tax Payers! This freeze will be worth over £200 for the typical family.”
