David Davis reassures pensioners that benefits are safe with the Conservatives
Former Shadow Home Secretary David Davis joined Stephen Metcalfe, Prospective Conservative MP for South Basildon & East Thurrock yesterday in Basildon Town Centre.
The purpose of David’s visit was twofold, first to support Stephen’s campaign and second and more importantly it gave, Stephen and David the opportunity to visit Basildon Bus Station and reassure residents that a Conservative Government will continue to fund key pensioner benefits such as the free bus passes, Winter Fuel Allowance, Cold Weather Payments and the free TV Licence for the over 75s.
Stephen said: “There has been a lot of scaremongering recently about what a Conservative Government may or may not do. I can categorically state that the Conservatives have NO plans to scrap the free bus pass scheme in the same way we have NO plans to scrap SureStart, Winter Fuel Allowance, Cold Weather Payments or the free TV Licence for the over 75s.??”
One of the key features of the forthcoming election is going to be honesty. People need to know which party will look them in the eye and tell it like it is. Trying to frighten people by telling them things that are not true is no way to go about getting some respect back into politics and dispelling the myth that all politicians are untrustworthy.
“That’s why we need a change of Government and new leadership for the country. We just can’t go on like this any longer.”
David Davis said “Stephen will make a great MP and will be a true voice for the residents of the constituency. It is a shame that Labour have opted to make things in order to scare people into voting for them”
