EU Action Day a huge success

Mark Francois, Conservative Shadow Minister for Europe joined Stephen Metcalfe, prospective Conservative Member of Parliament for South Basildon & East Thurrock and over 20 activists in Basildon Town Centre on Saturday as part of the Essex wide EU Referendum Action Day.

The Action Day designed to put pressure on the Government to honour its manifesto commitment to give the people a say on whether Britain should adopt the New EU treaty.

In only a few hours’ nearly 600 people signed a petition calling on the Prime Minister to let the British people have their say on the EU "Reform Treaty" through a referendum. A one point people were queuing to sign and publicly express their anger that despite Mr Browns statement that he wants to “trust the people” he will not give them a say on this most important issue.

Although Mr Brown has signed the treaty it is still not too late, there is still an opportunity to involve the public through a referendum. Mr Brown is treating us like fools if he thinks that we are not able to understand the issues and vote in a referendum.

Stephen Metcalfe said, “ Come on Mr Brown you owe it to us, the British People, to let us have a say on whether even more powers are given over to Europe. Stop putting Government first and start putting people first and give us a say!”
