Responding to First Responders
Stephen Metcalfe back Carnival Association Fund Raising Efforts.
Stephen Metcalfe, Prospective Conservative Member of Parliament for South Basildon and East Thurrock was delighted to attend for the third year running the recent Corringham and Stanford Carnival Association Spring Presentation evening at Corringham Village Hall. Each year the Carnival Association works very hard raising money for charity as the Carnival Court goes round the South East supporting various carnivals during the summer collecting funds.
This year the money raised went to two excellent local charities. First, Holiday Homes for the Handicapped, received £800 which they said would go a little way to making up the short fall in funds the charity has following the fire at its fundraising shop earlier in the year. Second, The Stanford-le-Hope & Corringham Community First Responder Group received a cheque for £750.
Community First Responders are volunteers trained by the East of England Ambulance Service in basic life support to attend life threatening 999 emergency calls. They aim to arrive before the ambulance crew to provide essential treatment and care to the patient.
First Responder groups are completely self-funded and rely on kind donations such as the Carnival Association and other sponsors to provide them with the vital training equipment, uniforms and general running costs they need to stay operational.
Like all voluntary groups they are always on the look out for more volunteers to help expand the service. If you are interested in volunteering, they have positions in the Stanford-le-Hope and Corringham group that also covers Fobbing, Hordon on the Hill and Linford. If you are aged between 17-80 years, have a full clean driving licence, own a car and have spare time to give, please contact the First Responder manager on 07967 135550, the Group co-ordinator on 07982 843754 or you can email EchoZulu63@yahoo.co.uk.
