Shadow Home Secretary promises action on anti-social behaviour
Chris Grayling, Shadow Home Secretary, visits Felmores and hears first hand how
anti-social behaviour needs to be tackled to improve quality of life.

Stephen Metcalfe, Prospective Conservative MP for South Basildon & East Thurrock was delighted to welcome to Felmores this morning Chris Grayling, Shadow Home Secretary to meet with Basildon Council Leader, Tony Ball, along with representatives from the Police, the housing department, St Georges Community Housing, Environmental Services and residents’ representatives to discuss how a Conservative Government will begin to tackle Anti-Social Behaviour.

Low-level crime and anti-social behaviour has a serious affect on people’s quality of life and the Conservatives have made this an area they are very keen to tackle.

For nearly an hour, Chris Graying and Stephen Metcalfe walked about in the Felmores area and discussed with residents Conservative ideas for tackling the problem; they also heard first hand about residents’ experiences.

Stephen Metcalfe said: “I am very aware of the impact that anti-social behaviour can have on people’s quality of life and how it can affect the overall safety of an area. I believe that to truly tackle it, everyone, form the police to the local councillors, need to work together and share information so that we can cut anti-social behaviour off at the bud before it escalates into more serious crime. One of the biggest complaints is that no-one is talking to each other and that no-one will take responsibility for tackling the problems.”

“Well, I want to change that, I want to work to breakdown the barriers and get everyone communicating better with each other so that we can improve the overall quality of life for our residents.”

“I am sure everyone agrees that more can be done - we now just need to work out how we can do it. I will therefore be putting forward ideas to bring everyone together to discuss this further in the near future.”
