Lord Tebbit shares his thoughts Stephen Metcalfe, prospective MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock Constituency, hosted Lord Tebbit at the Carlton Club last week for the inaugural meeting of the Constituency Patron’s Club.Norman Tebbit spoke of the massive financial problems facing this country. He spoke of the problems that Thatcher government had faced and overcome. He said that all Labour governments left office leaving serious financial problems and he outlined the steps a new Conservative Government would need to address to get the country back on its feet. The founding Chairman of the Basildon Businessmen’s’ Dining Club, Cllr Mike Revell, reminisced on the original formation of the club, formed in the days when David Amess first became the MP for Basildon. The first speaker was Michael Heseltine and from that time all the leading Conservatives had spoken to the club with the exception of Norman Tebbit. He was therefore delighted that Lord Tebbit had spoken at this meeting when the old dining club was being transformed into the new Patrons’ Club. Posted 1/11/08 |

| Plan for Change Stephen Metcalfe, prospective Member of Parliament was pleased with the vision David Cameron set out for a future Conservative Government. In his Conference speech, David Cameron outlined the party's Plan for Change and promised to rebuild the economy, renew the NHS and repair our broken society. He stressed that in these difficult times, Britain needs leadership, character and judgement: David Cameron said: “The leadership to unite your party and build a strong team. The character to stick to your guns and not bottle it when times get tough. The judgment to understand the mistakes that have been made and to offer the country change.” This economic crisis shows we need change, not more of the same. Instead of a divided Government led by the man who left the economy so badly prepared we need a strong, united, positive alternative to Labour. Because we're a united team, people can trust us to work together for the country in a crisis, unlike Labour who are fighting each other. This week we talked about the future of the country, unlike Labour who spent their conference arguing about their internal problems. We're not sitting back and waiting for Labour to fall apart. We have a plan for change - bold, radical ideas for changing Britain: to rebuild our battered economy, to renew our bureaucratised NHS, and to repair our broken society. |

The Future's Bright, the Future's Conservative...South Basildon and East Thurrock Conservative Future had their monthly meeting on Tuesday 5th of August. There discussed campaign strategy and how to involve more young people in politics. The event was attended by Prospective Conservative Member of Parliament for south Basildon and East Thurrock, Stephen Metcalfe. Stephen is leading the way in engaging youth in politics; he listens to the views of young people and will take these views to the heart of Government when elected in the next election. Too often young people feel alienated from politics, but this is a real avenue to make the voices of young people heard and with two members of Conservative future now elected councillors, it shows the young can be at the heart of decision making. Pictured are Stephen Metcalfe (Centre), with members of South Basildon & East Thurrock Conservative Future including Chairman James Halden, Basildon Youth Champion, Cllr Luke Mackenzie and former Thurrock Youth Parliament Member, Cllr Danny Nicklen.
