It’s official - NO New Parking Charges in Thurrock

Stephen Metcalfe, Prospective Conservative Member of Parliament for South Basildon & East Thurrock, has welcomed the decision by new Conservative Council Leader, Garry Hague and Thurrock Council to scrap the proposed Parking Charges across Thurrock.

Stephen said: “This is a victory for common sense; Thurrock Council is a Council that listens and again they have shown they can put residents first.”

“I understand that the Council has a difficult job to do, and that they have to set a balanced budget, but filling the hole left by a lack of proper Government funding and the deepening recession by introducing parking charges across Thurrock was not the answer.”

“As someone who is involved in running my own small business, I know how tough things are at the moment but I was confident that the Council would not want to do anything to damage local businesses. Garry Hague has now done that and has demonstrated that he wants to work with residents and traders to make Thurrock a better place.”

“On a personal note I would like to Congratulate Garry Hague on becoming leader and by acting so swiftly to demonstrate that his new Conservative administration is working for its residents.”
