Shadow Health Minister visits Basildon Hospital

Stephen Metcalfe, prospective Conservative MP for South Basildon & East Thurrock and Mike Penning, Shadow Health Minister visited Basildon Hospital yesterday.

In a wide-ranging discussion, Stephen and Mike discussed a number of local and national issues.

Stephen said: “With Basildon Hospital having been in the news so much recently following revelations about hygiene standards and mortality rates, I thought it important to hear first hand the steps that have been taken to address the situation and the plans that are in place to stop these failures happening again.”

“It is important that we have faith in our local hospital and that is why I wanted assurances that these issues were being taken seriously and that local residents could rely on our local hospital to provide a safe, secure and hygienic environment in which to be treated.”

Mike said: “It was very useful to be joined at Basildon hospital by Stephen, having lived and worked in Basildon I fully understand how important the hospital is to local people, and it is crucial that everyone has confidence in the clinical care they receive at their hospital”

Mike continued: “I was hugely impressed by the dedication of all the staff.”
