Rotary Club working hard to support earthquake victims.

Stephen Metcalfe, prospective Conservative MP for South Basildon & East Thurrock has today asked that people support ShelterBox in their effort to provide disaster relief to those affected by the tragic events in Haiti.

ShelterBox is an international disaster relief charity that delivers emergency shelter, warmth and dignity to people affected by disaster worldwide.

Each box supplies an extended family of up to 10 people with a tent and lifesaving equipment to use while they are displaced or homeless.

Stephen first learned of the excellent work of ShelterBox while visiting Basildon Concord Rotary Club as their speaker on Wednesday.

Stephen said: “I was very interested to hear how Rotary have been fund raising for ShelterBox for a number of years and how the boxes they provide are giving practical support to the many thousands of people affected by the earthquake in Haiti.

“I know we all want to do our bit to help the victims and this is a great way to do it, every pound donated is put to good use immediately and goes towards the purchase of more boxes.

“All this week, members of Basildon Concord Rotary Club, together with support from the Staff and Management at the Eastgate Centre, have been working hard collecting money towards the campaign and I would encourage people to support them.

“If you would like to donate please visit ShelterBox’s website at http://shelterbox.org/ and see the great work that they do and then donate either via their website or visit the display in the Eastgate Centre and support the Rotary Club’s collection.”
